Whether you’re concerned about changes in your hearing, you need documentation for work or school, or you simply want to establish a baseline, you might be wondering: How much is a hearing test in Ontario?
The answer depends on where you go and the type of auditory test you need. Below, our Markham audiologists break down the costs, what’s covered, and when a hearing test might be free.
Are Hearing Tests Free in Ontario?
No, hearing tests in Ontario are not universally free. That said, as part of Archer Hearing Centre’s efforts to make hearing health care accessible, we offer free hearing tests for adults 18 years of age and older who are:
- Looking to establish a baseline for their hearing
- Concerned about permanent hearing loss
- Exploring hearing aids or other solutions
We do, however, charge a $90 fee for hearing tests for acute medical check-ups, job applications, school, or other situations that require signatures or the completion of forms.
Does Private Insurance Cover Hearing Tests?
Yes, some private insurances cover hearing tests. It’s always a good idea to check your insurance package to see if there is audiology coverage.
Are Hearing Tests Covered by OHIP?
One of the most frequently asked questions our Markham audiologists receive is: Are hearing tests covered by OHIP? Unfortunately, hearing services, such as hearing tests and earwax removal, are not covered by OHIP when performed at a private audiology clinic.
OHIP only covers diagnostic hearing assessments when they’re ordered by an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist at an ENT clinic or when performed in a hospital setting.
At Archer Hearing Centre, while we are a private audiology clinic, we strive to make hearing care affordable for our community by offering complimentary general hearing tests for adults, transparent pricing, and flexible financing on hearing aids and services.
The good news is, if a hearing assessment reveals that you need hearing aids, you may be eligible for financial assistance through Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP). The government initiative helps offset the cost of hearing aids for qualifying residents.
Our audiologists will help you navigate the application process and even handle the paperwork for you to make it as simple as possible.
What are the Hearing Test Fees at Archer Hearing Centre?
We’re glad you asked! We’re dedicated to complete transparency about our costs. Here’s a breakdown of the fees we charge for the most common types of hearing tests:
Type of Hearing Test | Fee |
---|---|
General Adult Hearing Test (ages 18+) | Free |
Hearing Test for Employment or School Forms | $90 |
Hearing Test for Medical Documentation Purposes | $90 |
Pediatric Hearing Test (ages 3+) | $90 |
Tinnitus Assessment | $135 |
In-Home General Adult Hearing Test | $75 |
Whether you’ve been googling “free hearing test near me” or you’re looking for a comprehensive evaluation for a specific need, we have an option that fits.
