Hearing aids now use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to scan the environment and categorize sounds into different buckets. The devices then reduce the sounds classified as background noise to make hearing more comfortable.

Enhance Speech Sounds

Speech enhancement detects human speech and amplifies it. This feature helps you hear speech with better clarity, reduces strain, and makes holding a conversation easier, even in noisy environments.

Connect to Devices

You can stream audio from Bluetooth-enabled devices directly to most hearing aids. This way, you can hear TV shows, phone conversations, music, and more without having to turn the volume all the way up.

How Much Do Hearing Aids Cost?

At our Markham hearing clinic, the cost of a pair of hearing aids ranges from $1,900 to $5,900*. In an effort to make our hearing aids affordable for all, we offer interest-free financing options. We’re also an authorized vendor for all major third-party funding sources.

There are numerous styles of hearing aids on the market. When you visit Archer Hearing Centre, we’ll help you choose the best type of hearing aids for your needs. Options include:

Receiver-in-the-Canal (RIC) or Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE)

Best for Mild to Severe Hearing Loss

RIC hearing aids, also called RITE hearing aids, are the best choice for most patients. They consist of a small shell that sits behind the ear, a thin, nearly invisible wire, and a receiver, or speaker, that fits in the ear canal.

Benefits: One of the most discreet and comfortable hearing aids on the market; provides natural sound quality; has rechargeable battery options, directional microphones, and wireless Bluetooth

Considerations: Requires manual dexterity

Behind-the-Ear (BTE)

Best for Mild to Profound Hearing Loss

All of the electronic components of traditional BTE hearing aids are housed in a shell that goes behind the ear. A tube connects the shell to a custom ear mold that sits inside the ear canal and conducts sound.

Benefits: Appropriate for all ages including children; effective for nearly any type of hearing loss; more powerful than ITE hearing aids; has wireless Bluetooth

Considerations: Requires manual dexterity; more visible than other options

Invisible-in-the-Canal (IIC) or Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC)

Best for Mild to Moderate Hearing Loss

IIC or CIC hearing aids are the smallest available and are almost invisible. They consist of a custom shell made from an impression of the ear that sits entirely in the ear canal.

Benefits: Easy to insert; practically invisible even for those with no hair; nothing sits behind the ear (good for people with small external ears or who use supplemental oxygen)

Considerations: Smaller batteries that need to be changed more often; usually no Bluetooth; can create an echo or “plugged up” feeling

Other Custom In-the-Ear (ITE) Options

Best for Mild to Severe Hearing Loss

Other custom ITE options are bigger than IICs or CICs and rest in the bowl of the outer ear cartilage. The size can vary depending on factors such as power and dexterity considerations. While the custom shell fits mostly in the canal, it protrudes slightly.

Benefits: Easy to insert; nothing sits behind the ear (good for people with small external ears or who use supplemental oxygen); can usually accommodate Bluetooth and rechargeable batteries

Considerations: More visible than other hearing aids; can create an echo or “plugged up” feeling; the portion inside the ear is bulkier compared to RIC hearing aids

CROS/BiCROS

Best for Severe to Profound Hearing Loss in One Ear

CROS/BiCROS hearing aids are designed to help people with profound hearing loss in one ear that doesn’t respond to a typical hearing aid. A transmitter sits behind the poorer-hearing ear and sends sound to a receiver and microphone located behind the better-hearing ear.

Benefits: Effective for people with hearing loss in one ear that’s so profound that it doesn’t benefit from a traditional hearing aid; reduces the head shadow effect (i.e., your head blocks the sound coming from your poor-hearing ear)

Considerations: Takes time to get used to wearing; won’t fix all hearing problems you may have
