Hearing or Ear Emergencies
If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, we strongly recommend seeking immediate medical attention:
- Sudden hearing loss in one or both ears (especially if it occurred within the last 72 hours)
- Severe ear pain, especially with fever or fluid discharge
- Dizziness or vertigo accompanied by nausea or hearing changes
- Trauma to the ear or head (including barotrauma from flying or diving)
- A foreign object stuck in the ear
These situations may require urgent medical assessment. If this occurs during Archer Hearing Centre’s opening hours, you can call our clinic for guidance on how to proceed. It may be appropriate to come see our audiologists as the first step in determining what the issue is and what care is needed.

If we are not open, or if you are unable to come into our clinic for an emergency audiologist visit, please visit your nearest walk-in clinic, urgent care centre, or emergency department (Markham Stouffville Hospital is the closest) as needed. Let them know your symptoms involve sudden hearing changes or balance issues, as timely treatment is critical for certain ear-related conditions.
