Tinnitus Assessment in Markham, Ontario

Get Relief From Ringing in Your Ears

If you’re dealing with persistent ringing, buzzing, or humming noises in your ears, you may have tinnitus. At Archer Hearing Centre, our audiologists are trained to evaluate your symptoms and provide guidance, which is the first step in reclaiming your peace and well-being.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of sound in your ears when no external noise is present. Though it’s commonly described as ringing, it can also sound like buzzing, whistling, humming, hissing, clicking, or a combination of noises. Tinnitus can vary in intensity from mild to severe and can affect one or both ears.

Tinnitus is not a disease. Instead, it may be a symptom of an underlying condition, such as:

  • Hearing loss
  • Exposure to loud noise
  • Earwax buildup
  • Medication side effect
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Head and neck injuries

How Much Does a Tinnitus Assessment Cost?

The cost can vary depending on the clinic you visit. At Archer Hearing Centre, we charge $95 for a tinnitus assessment.

Do I Need a Tinnitus Test?

You should consider scheduling a tinnitus evaluation if you experience:

  • Ringing, buzzing, clicking, or hissing in your ears that doesn’t go away
  • Difficulty concentrating due to persistent noise
  • Trouble sleeping because of the noise
  • Increased stress caused by tinnitus
  • Hearing loss or sensitivity to certain sounds

What to Expect During Your Tinnitus Assessment

Step 1

In-Depth Consultation

When you visit our tinnitus clinic in Markham, ON, we start by discussing the types of sounds you hear, when and how often the noises occur, any potential triggers, and the impact it’s having on your life. We’ll also review your medical history, lifestyle, and current medications.

Step 2

Hearing and Tinnitus Testing

Our audiologist will conduct a hearing test in our soundproof booth to identify any underlying hearing loss. This is important because hearing loss is one of the most common causes of tinnitus. Next, we’ll perform a tinnitus sound test, also called a tinnitus matching test. You’ll listen to different sounds at varying intensities and frequencies as we try to replicate what you hear with your tinnitus.

Step 3

Personalized Guidance

We’ll walk you through your test results and discuss the potential causes of your tinnitus. We’ll also provide you with treatment recommendations and next steps. Please note that we do not offer specialized tinnitus treatment methods, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT), but we are able to give appropriate referrals for patients interested in these treatments.
