What to Expect During a Pediatric Hearing Assessment

Step 1

Consultation

We start by taking an in-depth case history, including asking about familial history, birth complications, and any concerns you have. We also discuss your child’s infant hearing screening results, language, milestones, health, and lifestyle. This helps us tailor the evaluation to your child’s needs.

Step 2

Comprehensive Evaluation

Using the latest tools and technology, we evaluate your child’s overall ear health and perform non-invasive, age-appropriate hearing tests. Our audiologists make the experience engaging and fun.

Step 3

Results and Guidance

After your child’s test, the audiologist will explain the results in detail, answer your questions, and provide recommended next steps. If it’s a hearing test for school or another situation requiring documentation, we’ll provide the reports and paperwork you need.

Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA) – $90

For Children Ages 3+ Without Developmental Delays

We use a technique called Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA) to test kids’ hearing. This playful approach is presented in the manner of a game to reduce anxiety and produce more engagement and accurate results. During the test, your child will complete age-appropriate play activities (i.e., tossing a toy in a bucket) in response to sounds.

Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA)

For Children Under the Age of 3 and Adults With Special Needs

For infants and toddlers between the ages of 1 and 2.5 years old, visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA) is used. The audiologist trains your child to turn their head towards the sound source using visual rewards like flashing toys and animated videos. If you need VRA, please call the clinic. While we do not currently offer it, we will be happy to direct you to VRA services!
